Welcome from Head of School

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We are excited to have you at Oaks and count it as a significant privilege to be able to partner with you in your educational journey and in our mission of "preparing minds for leadership and hearts for service."

We have compiled this handbook to provide an expression of our commitment to you as a learning community. Its content spans from issues of academic concerns to student life to parent involvement. Although the school has prepared this handbook with careful and thoughtful planning, no doubt there will be additional issues and unforeseen concerns as we walk through this school year together. When this happens, we will do our best to communicate with you clearly and quickly, as may be appropriate.

In addition to this document, we have made a digital version of the High School Campus Handbook available at the OCS website [insert website URL] (AXIS) so that parents and students may access it if needed at any time.

As this handbook seeks to address most of the general parameters of school life at OCS, it is important that every parent and student read the entire handbook in order to become familiar with its content and expectations. Students and parents are responsible for understanding the procedures and policy guidelines outlined in this book and are required to sign the provided form stating that the handbook was read, understood, and agreed to for compliance. Information, policies, procedures, and guidelines are an attempt to help the community operate smoothly and fairly, while allowing for discretion, discernment, wisdom, and grace within these boundaries, parameters, and guidelines to be considered and enjoyed. The spirit of this handbook is to allow OCS to conduct itself in such a way as to give glory and honor to God and dignity to each other, in a compassionate and caring way. Our expectation is that our students will use appropriate and proper judgment when given responsibility. It is with that explicit and heartfelt desire that we offer this handbook to the school community.

The student community has a unique opportunity and responsibility to set the standard and impact the culture of the school for the future. OCS students will determine school pride and spirit, academic, artistic, and athletic reputation, spiritual development and leadership, and service to the surrounding community. The tradition of Oaks Christian continues with you. May you carry the mantle forward in such a manner that well represents yourself, your family, and your school.

Blessings,

Robert T. Black Head of School/President
