Athletic Distinction

The purpose of Oaks Christian Athletics is to transform lives through demonstrating Christ-like values in interscholastic sports. Coaches and athletes strive to achieve our mission by developing positive moral character, competitive spirit, and athletic performance.

Coaches first focus on the development of character then on the advancement of our athlete’s skill and knowledge of the game. With this, the teams can play to win, developing a positive competitive spirit. If they don’t win (or athletes don’t get to play), athletes are taught to have the character to accept that they do not get to make coaching decisions. This is a life lesson.

It is also a strong desire of Oaks Christian Athletics to work together, in partnership, with parents of athletes at the school. This means embracing the purity of sport and unifying qualities that athletics can teach in terms of teamwork, value, and character development.

There will be tryouts for most sports, but not all. Contact the Athletic Office for details.

Eligibility for Competition

It is required of our student-athletes that they be as committed to success in the classroom as they are on the field/court. This develops personal responsibility and commitment to team. Academic and citizen-ship standards must be met in order to participate. See attendance policy for participation in extracurricular activities.

Any student falling below a 2.0 GPA, receiving a D+ or lower grade in any core class during the season, or receiving an unsatisfactory citizenship mark (N or U on a report card) will be deemed ineligible to participate in practices or contests until his/her grades and citizenship meet the OCS standard.

Tryout Procedures

We have three separate seasons of sports: fall, winter, and spring. A sign-up email will be sent before all sports seasons. Tryout are held and evaluations are made by the coaching staff to determine teams. Cuts may be made. If a student athlete does not make the team, they can opt to participate in the intramural program. Playing a sport in any season will satisfy PE credit (only one season required per year).

Intramural Program

The OC intramural program will host 2-3 different sports-based physical activities in each season. These sports are played within our own OC student community (grades 5-8). There will not be any off-campus competitions. Our intramural director will be coordinating teams along with our HS coaches/staff and will be teaching fundamentals of each sport. Purpose of OC Intramural Program

  • Character Development – teach young athletes how to compete with dignity, integrity, and grace.
  • Skill Development – learn a new sport and exercise
  • Have Fun – learn in a non-pressurized setting
  • Will satisfy a PE Credit
  • Sports offered depending on field/gym availability: Fall - Softball, Badminton, Lacrosse, Pickleball, Soccer Winter - Flag Football, Water Polo/Swim, Tennis, Golf, Yard Games The Intramural program will be offered in the fall and winter season after the tryouts for regular sports. Therefore, if the student-athlete does not make a team, they will still have an opportunity to play after school sports. The requirements are that the athlete will commit to the season and show up every day it is offered.

Role of the Spectator

Good sportsmanship is an Oaks Christian School value and regardless of trends to the contrary in American society, it will remain a value in our school. Since the inception of our school, our student-athletes, coaches, and parents have served as examples of “winning the correct way.” Vocal support must continue to be positive in nature. Our coaches and student athletes are required to adhere to both the letter and spirit of the rules of each sport and spectators are expected to mirror that philosophy. Spectators who cannot abide by this principle will be asked not to attend the school’s athletic events.

Athletic Uniform Replacement Policy

The student-athlete is responsible for all gear that is issued to him/her. It must be cared for properly and returned to the coach or athletic department at the end of the sport season. Failure to do so will result in the student-athlete being required to pay for the replacement cost of gear not returned or cared for properly.
